Upcoming Events for 1-29-18 thru 2-4-18

The East Lexington Collaborative Ministry Group (First Reformed UCC, Second Reformed UCC, Shady Side Presbyterian, and St. Stephen UMC) will be holding a “Lenten Lunch & Learn Series” beginning Tuesday, February 20th in our church Fellowship Hall from 12:00-1:00pm. The meetings will continue each Tuesday through March 27th. Each meeting will begin with lunch (BRING YOUR OWN BAG LUNCH) and will be led by Rev. Elizabeth Horton and Rev. Dr. Arnetta Beverly, pastor of St. Stephens UMC. The bible study will be based on the book Jesus: Understanding His Death and Resurrection – A study of Mark 14-16. The books may be purchased in advance by contacting the church office or completing the order form in Sunday’s bulletin to return to the office or place in the offering plate. The cost is $5.00 each. Please sign up by February 4th so that we may have time to order literature.

LOOKING AHEAD…

  1. “SOUPER” BOWL SUNDAY IS FEBRUARY 4th
The youth of our church will be at each exit next Sunday with their soup pots to collect money that will be donated to Open Hands Ministry. Be sure to bring your dollars and change to fill the soup pots for the youth!

  2. CONGREGATIONAL MEAL AND MEETING
Following worship on February 11th, plan stay to enjoy a bowl of delicious “Brunswick Stew-style” soup prepared by Women’s Life Fellowship. Following lunch there will be a congregational meeting to hear committee reports. There will also be a vote to change the church by-laws (page 4, section 4) to move our meeting date for presentation of nominations for Consistory to the second Sunday in November instead of the first Sunday since this regularly interferes with Homecoming Sunday.

  3. NOISY OFFERING!
On February 18th and 25th the youth of our church will collect a NOISY OFFERING to be used for their Youth Service Project on March 25th. Their goal is to collect $400 to pack 60 bags for the Back Pack Program for Easter Break. Start saving those coins to drop in the cans and make some noise. (Crinkly noises made with folding money are great, too!)

  4. “40 BAGS in 40 DAYS” DECLUTTER CHALLENGE
To raise additional funds for their summer trip, our Girl Scout Troop will be hosting a community-wide “40 Bags in 40 Days” Declutter Challenge to coincide with Lent. Every day of Lent (February 14 – March 29, with one day off per week), fill a bag of any size with stuff you want to get rid of. This is a great opportunity to clean out cabinets, drawers, closets or garages and donate things you no longer need or want to a good cause…the GIRL SCOUTS’ HUGE YARD SALE!
Donated items will be collected in the art room in the basement of the Educational Building. Church members can drop things off at any time, but there will also be specific drop-off days for the public.
The troop’s yard sale will be held on Saturday, April 7 in the grassy lot beside the church or in the Fellowship Hall in case of rain.
If you are a yard sale pro, let Kivi know! The Girl Scouts would love your help organizing and pricing as donations come in and during the sale on April 7.
You can sign-up to take the Declutter Challenge at facebook.com/girlscouts2160 or instagram.com/girlscouts2160 or by letting Kivi Miller know you plan to participate.
