A MESSAGE FROM REV. HORTON:

Beloved Community,
This Saturday, we are trying something new! A service for All Hallows Eve.  All Hallows Eve, (or Halloween) is just that – the eve of the Christian holiday of All Hallows or All Saints, celebrated on November 1st.  Many generations have thought of the Eve before All Saints Day as a “thin place,” where the earthly and the spiritual world are not far apart, when it’s easier for the living and the dead to gather together in some mysterious way.

With the veil between the worlds strangely thin, we will hold our first All Hallows’ Eve worship service in the sanctuary on Saturday, October 30 at 5:00p.m.

Chris Kiser, church organist, will play plenty of spooky Halloween music from the majestic pipe organ.  We will hear the mystifying lessons from 1 Samuel 28, The Witch of Endor, and Ezekiel 37, The Valley of the Dry Bones.

After the service, we will fellowship together on the front steps of the church and join in the festivities of the Uptown Boo Bash.

Children and Adults are encouraged to dress in costume.  We follow COVID protocols of masking inside the sanctuary.

Sunday morning, as the Halloween decorations still remain and we look toward All Saints Day, we start our series in Mark’s Gospel:  A Life That Matters.  As we enter this Post Pandemic Era, we need to reexamine our ministries and our own lives so that what we do matters for this day and age.  In 2021 and beyond, how does First Reformed UCC live a life that matters?
