HORTONDear Beloved Community, After 3 weeks of wintry weather, I sure am ready to be with you all this Sunday! Last week we had a “watch party” in the sanctuary for those who wanted to venture out into the cold. Although it was a small group, the Spirit was present. I am reminded over and over how God is at work in the most unexpected circumstances. Thanks to Ellen Peterson for piecing together our video pieces, editing, and posting the service online. We are truly blessed by her many talents and generous nature! This Sunday, we celebrate Holy Communion together. We continue with our Sermon Series from 1 Corinthians, “Love Is” by exploring, how do we Rekindle the Flame? We will also ordain and install Jeremy Lovell to the Consistory as a Deacon. VALENTINE CARD MINISTRY! This Sunday we’ll have Valentine Cards you can sign so we can Spread the Love to our members who are at home. We need people to deliver these bags of cards on February 13th and 14th. Please consider signing up. The Parlor is in the midst of transformation. Some furniture has arrived and more is to come. Elizabeth CRUCIAL CONVERSATIONS ON FAITH AND RACE Currently, CFAR, is a virtual community designed for intentional and honest conversations to help foster racial justice and reconciliation in our community. We meet Tuesdays at noon via Zoom. Thru February we will have conversations with local folks who share their own experiences of faith and race. In 2017, a small group from 2 black and 2 white churches (First Reformed, Second Reformed, St. Stephen UMC and Shadyside Presbyterian) formed the then East Lexington Collaborative Ministries. The Spirit led us beyond the boundaries of the 4 churches to many cross sections of this community. All are welcome to join in.
