Looking toward SundayA Message From Rev. HortonDear Beloved Community, This past Wednesday Jay Whitley and Ben Hale a few other volunteers from our church showed up at Charles England Elementary with hot dogs and the fixings to celebrate the graduating 5th graders. I looked upon the group of excited tweens, giggling and chasing each other between eating chips and drinking juice boxes.  I felt the anger rise The students of Robb Elementary in Texas could have been doing the exact same thing. What will it take for us to make the school shootings stop? This Sunday, we approach worship with incredibly heavy and grief filled hearts for the teachers and students of who were shot and killed. For the family of the troubled 18 year old who committed this horrible act. We are filled with shock, fear, sorrow, and anger.
Our country will celebrate Memorial Day, and we will remember the sacrifice of those who died serving this country. And We will also grieve for the veterans who, though alive, struggle with the devastating after effects of war, the deep wounds of body, heart, and mind that will never be erased. The altarscape team will place on the front lawn a cross filled with poppies to remember lives lost. May we join together this Sunday to collectively remember, to lament, and to seek courage to face the calling God has for us. Our thoughts and prayers will be about preparation for the work ahead.May we be instruments of God’s peace. In Christ’s love Elizabeth
A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and great weeping, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more.Jeremiah 31:15
