WEEKLY EMAIL FROM FIRST REFORMED UCC FEBRUARY 11, 2022VALENTINE CARD MINISTRY! SHARE THE LOVE: SUNDAY WILL BE THE LAST DAY to remember our members at home with Valentine’s Day cards. Fifteen bags, along with labels, are on the back pew of the sanctuary to collect cards. You may place your own cards in the bags or use one of the sets available in the Narthex. Please make sure you place cards in the bags before leaving church. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED to help deliver the Valentine bags on February 13th or 14th. Please help by signing up on the list on the back pew. LOOKING TOWARD SUNDAY: A MESSAGE FROM REV. HORTON Dear First Reformed Family, We shared last week that after serving for 5 years, Carolyn Robbins will be ending her time as the church Administrative Assistant at the end of April 2022. Carolyn has faithfully and diligently carried out the many tasks of an ever-growing job. She had the large responsibility of typing bulletins, running copies, writing emails, making newsletters, answering phones and fielding questions… all while keeping a friendly face to welcome folks into the building! Carolyn has often worked long hours and on weekends to accommodate unexpected ministries such as funerals or spontaneous projects. We are indeed grateful for her dedication and service!Carolyn’s departure is happening along side the retirement of Paula Lopp. To say that First Reformed is going thorugh a tremendous transition is a bit of an understatement. Our staffing is in a season of loss and change. The church office combination of Paula and Carolyn is a dynamic duo that will be sorely missed. And yet…we must remember loss and change brings with it opportunity. Together, Carolyn and Paula created a strong foundation upon which we can build into the future. For the next step in our staffing, the Consistory approved the recommendation to hire a Full Time, Church Administrator: to manage the operations, serve as a financial officer, and facilitate the communications for the church. This person works in partnership with ministry staff and lay leadership to further the church’s community-minded vision and inclusive mission to love God and love our neighbor. SKILLS NEEDED: This broad-spectrum role needs strong bookkeeping, communication, and organizational skills. Must be comfortable using various types of technology, digital platforms, and software. Must be able to maintain confidentiality at times. Here is the complete job posting if you wish to pass it along. Church Administrator Job Posting 02012022 1.pdf This Sunday, February 13th, after worship, we will remain in the sanctuary for our annual Congregational Meeting. We will focus this year primarily on looking forward. To help us in that endeavor, we need to hear from you. Below is a link with a few short questions. Please click and let us know what you think. I hope to see you on Sunday, but if you cannot come in person, you may join the meeting via Zoom. Worship starts at 10:30. We hope to conclude the meeting by Noon. As the winter days (hopefully) pass, we know that spring is around the corner. One season passes, another season is born. Together we will discern how God is calling us. Together with you in faith, hope, and love. Feb. 15, Rev Jabo Knotts Feb. 22, Cassandra Lockhart The group started out of First Reformed’s Board of Evangelism, under the leadership of Dave Fulton. In 2017, a small group from 2 black and 2 white churches (First Reformed, Second Reformed, St. Stephen UMC and Shadyside Presbyterian) formed the then East Lexington Collaborative Ministries.
