Sunday’s Sermon  The Edges of Our Faith: In Need of ClarityRev. Elizabeth HortonScripture Reading: Amos 8: 1-12
A message from Rev. Horton…
Dear Beloved Community,  This month we celebrate Ellen Peterson’s 10-year anniversary with First Reformed! In July 2012, First Reformed UCC made a wonderful decision to ask Ellen Peterson to serve as Choir Director! What a blessing for us that she agreed!
Since then, Ellen has helped First Reformed grow in love and faith through music. Ellen not only directs the adult choir and handbell choir, but during COVID, she was instrumental in creating the digital worship service. In addition to sharing her beautiful voice in worship, Ellen helps coordinate special music, is an integral part of leading worship, and makes the livestream accessible through YouTube. Ellen’s ministry in music is far reaching and she makes such a difference in the lives of many.
Ellen, we celebrate you and your amazing talents and gifts that you so freely share with the Congregation!! We pray God’s richest blessings upon you, Jeremy, and Lucas! I am grateful to Camill and Casey Ball, Patrick Horton, and Camille Morgan for helping with the Y on Wheels. It sure was hot, but we got a chance to reach out to children and parents in the Helen Caple neighborhood, and Harmony Court on Jamaica Drive.  I also want to thank Jerry Lovell for introducing us to the Cuts, Curls, and Chow Ministry at Salvation Army.  Showers, haircuts, and food for the homeless. Our church donated over 250 washcloths and 200 disposable washcloths for this ministry. Also, Jerry and several volunteers are making sure folks who need clean clothes get them from the First Reformed Clothing ministry.  I love that each of these events is a collaborative effort. Different organizations working with one another to meet a community need. God has blessed these seeds and made them grow. I believe this is the way of our church’s future … partnering with others, building bridges.  I am taking vacation after Sunday’s worship service. We are headed to the beach for a few days. Rev. June will be available for pastoral emergencies and Rev Evan will fill the pulpit on July 24. I’ll be back at church July 25.  Thank you for the many ways you minister to each other and plant seeks for God’s kingdom here on earth.  In faith, hope, and love, Elizabeth
