Sunday’s Sermon A Work In Progress:Rev. Elizabeth HortonScripture Reading:Mark 14: 22-30
A Message FromRev. Elizabeth Horton“Those who sing, pray twice.”often attributed to St. Augustine, 5th centuryDear Beloved Community, This Sunday come sing and pray twice! In worship, we will have a Hymn Sing, with some time-honored songs of our faith!  Some hymns you will know, and others may not be so familiar. Either way, we will make a Joyful Noise together!
Singing hymns unites us with each other. We become one voice, one heart, one body. We lean on others to carry the tune when we don’t know the way, and at other times, we take the lead when others feel unsure.  Singing hymns unites us with our ancestors in the faith and the saints who have gone before us.Singing is not a spectator sport. It involves our whole self in prayer!  We sing because singing is what the people of God do…. what we have done for generations… in times of joy, distress, praise, fear.As we celebrate the gift of music in worship, we also give tremendous thanks for the 10 year Anniversary of Ellen Peterson as our Choir Director.  Ellen’s high level of professionalism, her tremendous vocal talent, and her creative worship leadership is indeed something to celebrate! First Reformed is incredibly blessed by her ministry. After worship, join us for a Reception in Ellen’s honor.  Let’s celebrate Ellen and this wonderful milestone on Sunday!  ______________Next Sunday, September 18, is Big Board Sunday.  In an attempt to re-connect and re-engage in ministry, All the congregation is invited to Big Board Sunday!Come to the Fellowship Hall after worship for a light lunch, fellowship, and time for Ministry Planning.  After we gather, each of the 7 Church Boards will meet simultaneously but separately for their specific Ministry Area.If you are not on a Board, stay in the Fellowship Hall where together we will continue fellowship and have conversation as well.Food and Activities will be provided for Children and Youth. Are you on one of these Boards?                     Community Outreach               Congregational Life           EvangelismFaith Formation  PropertyWorship and SacramentBusiness Management Stewardship Thank you for the many ways you serve Christ, each other, and the community around us. Let us move forward in faith, hope, and love. Yours in Christ, Elizabeth

Lifting of Covid Restrictions:With the recent changes in the CDC guidelines, the Consistory approved the lifting of all Covid Restrictions for church facilities. Moving forward, masking and distancing is left up to your judgment. Even without limits in place, we plan as a congregation to continue to do what is needed to care for one another and help each other remain healthy.
