Pastor’s blog

The stores and sounds around us are already in full swing for the Christmas season. And yet, as Christians we are called to pause for a bit before worshipping the Christ Child in the manger…to enter the season of preparing the way, waiting and watching.
We begin this season uniting together to lift up those who suffer from AIDS both locally and globally. Saturday night at 7pm, please join me for a community-wide prayer service at Files Chapel Baptist Church at 912 Dixie Street. An offering will be taken to benefit Positive Wellness Alliance, a local non-profit that provides support to HIV/AIDS patients and their families. Ms. Alicia Diggs will be the speaker, and she has a powerful story to tell. I am grateful to Rev. Dr. Arnetta Beverly for taking the lead role in organizing this service, and to Dave Fulton and the East Lexington Collaborative for supporting it.
On Sunday, we begin the series “Calm and Bright,” celebrating the 200th anniversary of the beloved carol, “Silent Night.”
May the God who is and is to come remind you that you are loved and you are never alone.
May you go and share that message to those who need to hear it.
Waiting and watching with you,

Elizabeth
