Holy Week Activities

Upcoming Events Please join us on April 9th for the annual Community Palm Sunday Celebration on the Square. Reverend Horton will participate. Touching Davidson County With Love

Our church is collecting items for Communities in Schools of Lexington/Davidson County as we again participate in Touching Davidson County with Love. Needed are non-perishable food, hygiene and laundry products. Collection boxes are in the narthex of the sanctuary as well as in the corridor outside the fellowship hall. Labyrinth Walks April 11-16

Church to offer labyrinth walks April 11-16 A labyrinth looks like a maze, but it is not. Some find it a meditation tool, or walk it simply for the peace and serenity that comes from being alone and contemplating a problem or issue. The most famous labyrinth is located on the floor of Chartres Cathedral in France, which dates to the 13th century. Hours to walk the labyrinth are April 11 and April 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.…

Community Meal, March 28, 2017

First Reformed UCC enjoyed the second Community Meal of the year on Tuesday, March 28th. A delicious meal prepared by chef Mike Brown and “Crew” consisting of Baked Spaghetti, Salad, Garlic Bread, Homemade desserts, Tea and Lemonade was served to approximately 80 church families and community friends. Sponsored by the Evangelism Board and the Community Meal volunteers, this was another successful time to enjoy good food and fellowship while sharing God’s many blessings. Mat Weaving Ministry Expanding

Who could have imagined that hundreds of plastic grocery bags filling up recycle bins, or in some cases, garbage cans, could have such a positive impact in keeping our local homeless population protected from the wet ground? A group of mat weavers at First Reformed UCC had exactly that vision. They meet at the church at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays where they quickly get to work cutting plastic bags into narrow strips that they tie together vertically. Church members continue to save and donate their grocery bags to supply this ministry.…

The Healing Force Drum Band Sunday, Feb. 19, 2 p.m.

The Healing Force Drum family band will offer a free concert on Sunday, featuring drumming, African music played on handmade instruments, singing and storytelling. First Reformed UCC is offering the free concert to the public to celebrate Black History Month, with sponsorship by the Maggie and Arthur Thomason Endowment. All Invited to Community Meal, Tuesday, Jan. 24

Bring your family, friends and neighbors to our Community Meal served on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 5 p.m. in our Fellowship Hall. A hot winter menu of beef stew, pinto beans, collard greens, corn bread, dessert and beverages will be served. The meal is free to all with donations accepted. Proceeds will go to support the Open Hands Meal served at our church each Monday evening.   

Rev. Elizabeth Parker Horton Installed as Eighth Minister at First Reformed UCC

Sunday, January 22nd was an important day in the life of First Reformed UCC. At 4 p.m., Rev. Elizabeth Parker Horton was formally installed as the church’s eighth pastor. Approximately 30 visiting ministers as well as about 150 church members and friends took part in the service. Church children proudy entered the sanctuary holding high their colorful, biodegradable balloons, and they enjoyed releasing them in the church yard after the service. Rev. Elizabeth Parker Horton will be formally installed as pastor of First Reformed UCC in Lexington at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 22. Rev. Beth Kennett, a UCC minister from the Center for Congregational Health, will bring the message and the charge for Pastor Elizabeth and the congregation. The installation  acknowledges the relationships between the pastor, congregation and the United Church of Christ.
